Richard Fishman was born in Boston and grew up nearby. He attended Bennington College where he studied with Pat Adams and Philip Wofford and received a degree in fine arts. Later Richard attended California College of the Arts in San Francisco/Oakland where he received a BFA in graphic design and illustration. Richard had a decades-long career as a graphic designer and has lived in New York, London, San Francisco, Vermont and DC before moving to Cape Cod. He maintains a painting studio at his home in Stow, Massachusetts. His work is in private collections in North Carolina, California, Massachusetts, Maine and Minnesota.
